How the calculation works

Fine metal value equals weight multiplied by purity multiplied by the spot price per gram. The spot price comes from our server every fifteen minutes; the purity comes from the stamp inside your piece (750 is 18K, 585 is 14K, 375 is 9K). The buyer ranges reflect what reputable dealers pay: eighty to ninety-five percent of fine value for jewelry and scrap, ninety-five to ninety-nine percent for coins and bars from recognised mints.

What the number does not include

Stones, signatures and antique value. A signed or antique piece can be worth a multiple of its metal; sell it as jewelry, not as gold. Plated pieces (GP, GF, HGE) have no metal value.
