Gemstone Comparator
Choose two or three stones and compare what matters when you are deciding: hardness, toughness, whether it survives a daily ring, the price tier, the usual treatments and how to clean it.

What the columns mean
Hardness is scratch resistance on the Mohs scale; anything under 7 is scratched by household dust. Toughness is resistance to chipping and breaking, which is different: diamond is the hardest material but can chip, jade is softer but nearly unbreakable. Daily wear combines the two with stability against heat, light and chemicals. Price tier is for fine quality per carat, from affordable (1) to auction territory (5). Treatments are what is normally done to the stone and should be disclosed.
