Modern and traditional lists

The modern list was standardised in 1912 by American jewelers and updated since (tanzanite in 2002, spinel in 2016); the traditional list goes back to older European and biblical associations. Both are in use, and many months offer a choice. The durability note tells you whether the stone suits a daily ring or belongs in earrings and pendants.
